Screening of Australian Survivor: Redemption
On the evening of 24 February, The Young Assyrians (TYA) proudly hosted a special screening of Australian Survivor: Redemption, bringing together members of our youth community in a vibrant show of support for our very own Assyrian-Australian contestant, Johnson Ashak.
The event created an energetic and united atmosphere, with attendees gathering to celebrate not only Johnson’s journey on a national stage but also the growing visibility and representation of Assyrian Australians in mainstream media. It was a moment of shared pride, as young people from across the community came together to support one of our own and connect through a common experience.
Beyond the screening itself, the night served as an opportunity to strengthen community bonds, foster engagement among Assyrian youth, and highlight the importance of representation in shaping identity and aspiration. Johnson’s participation in Australian Survivor continues to inspire many, demonstrating the impact of perseverance, resilience, and cultural pride.
The Young Assyrians remain committed to creating spaces that empower young people, celebrate achievements within our community, and bring individuals together through meaningful and memorable experiences.

Planning and Preparation - Canberra Policy Summit
The Young Assyrians (TYA) were pleased to meet with the Hon. Chris Bowen MP to discuss upcoming organisational initiatives and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
Representing the organisation, President Mr Dennis Suro and Vice President Mr Bineil Misho engaged in a constructive and forward-looking discussion, focusing on strengthening engagement between community organisations and government and identifying pathways to deliver meaningful outcomes for the Assyrian Australian community.
The conversation highlighted the importance of youth leadership, community advocacy, and sustained collaboration in addressing key issues and supporting the growth and development of emerging leaders within the community. It also provided an opportunity to outline TYA’s ongoing work and vision for empowering young Assyrians across Australia.
The Young Assyrians are grateful to Minister Bowen for his time, engagement, and continued support. We look forward to building on this discussion and sharing further updates on our initiatives in due course.
