Sydney, Australia – The grand opening of the new office and center of the Assyrian National Council - Australia (ANCA) marked a truly momentous occasion and a fresh beginning to the long history of the organization, which was established in 1972.

In his opening remarks, the President of the ANCA expressed deep gratitude to all past and present members of the organization who worked selflessly to maintain the strong aims and objectives of the council. Special acknowledgment was given to The Young Assyrians, whose hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm have been instrumental in making this event a success. Their commitment to leading the organization into the future is both inspiring and invaluable.

“For over 50 years, members of the Assyrian National Council have been steadfast in their dedication to advancing our community. Originally established in 1972 as the Assyrian Universal Alliance - Australia Chapter, our efforts have been diverse. From spearheading the organization of our beloved annual Assyrian New Year festival for the past 20 years to tirelessly advocating for the recognition of the Assyrian Genocide, and campaigning for the resettlement of our Assyrian brethren affected by the atrocities of ISIS, our commitment has remained unwavering. We have forged close collaborations with State and Federal Members of Parliament, advocating for various motions to protect the rights of the Assyrian people in Iraq and Syria,” the President stated.

Despite numerous challenges, the resilience and determination of ANCA members have prevailed. Today’s celebration is a testament to the culmination of their efforts.

Special gratitude was extended to the Honourable Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy, for his valuable support and assistance. His unwavering commitment and support for funding during the last Federal election played a pivotal role in making the establishment of this beautiful center a reality. Additionally, thanks were given to Dr. Hugh McDermott MP, State Member for Prospect, for his commitment in providing funding during the last State Parliament election.

The event also honored the presence of The Hon Minister, Penny Sharpe MLC, representing the Premier of NSW. Distinguished guests from Federal, State, and Local government were also acknowledged for their presence and support.

A very special thanks was given to Mr. Evin Yalda, whose initiative and generosity have been instrumental in bringing this center to completion. Mr. Yalda’s donation towards the construction of the partitions, flooring, and furnishings of this center is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Assyrian community. The organization is deeply grateful for his sincere contribution.

Additionally, appreciation was extended to the legal advisor Mrs. Suzy David for her steadfast support, serving as the backbone of the organization. Gratitude was also expressed to all Committee Members of the ANCA, including David David, Vice President, whose unwavering dedication and selfless commitment have been the cornerstone of the organization's success for many years. Acknowledgments were also given to James Jacob, Joseph Joseph, William David, Ben Jabro, Adison Alkhas, Albert Shlemon, and the future leaders, The Young Assyrians: Leyana Alkhas, Breteil Tigers David, Ramsin Edward, and all past and present committee members whose unwavering dedication and profound commitment to the organization’s mission have become beacons of inspiration.

The Assyrian National Council - Australia Centre aims to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for the community. It will serve as a hub for the provision of essential services and support to Assyrians across Australia. From cultural events to educational programs, this center will be instrumental in promoting the objectives of the ANCA and fostering a sense of unity and solidarity within the community.

The opening of this centre signifies a significant step forward for the Assyrian community in Australia. The ANCA calls for unity in commitment to progress and collaboration in achieving shared goals and aspirations.
